Tambopata–La Pampa landscape

A landscape damaged by gold mining, where scientific restoration is under way. A specialist research candidate, not a ready guest destination.

Research candidateWatershed & biodiversity

Real location and documented needs. No Eden site or partnership confirmed.

Documented need

What the published record says.

CINCIA documents reforestation work at La Pampa in July 2024 and continuing scientific restoration of mining-damaged ecosystems, including at Balata, in August 2026. Its 2025 research communications address mercury pollution associated with mining.

Restoration and research evidence is dated 2024–2026 and belongs to the institutions doing it.

The places on this site are real, and the environmental evidence is cited. Eden hospitality, prices, availability, booking, Impact Passport activity and Impact Credits are simulations. Nothing is bookable and no payment is ever taken.

Our proposal

Specialist restoration of mining-damaged forest

What we would propose here, if local partners wanted it. Nothing below has been agreed.

Proposed environmental focus

Support professionally led native forest restoration, nursery work and research data through established institutions.

Proposed community focus

Community priorities and forest-compatible livelihoods require local consultation before anything is proposed.

Potential contribution — subject to local agreement

What could be useful here.

For the place

  • Nursery propagation and seedling care
  • Plant survival and soil recovery records
  • Data entry and research support
  • Restoration record keeping

With the community

  • Paid local restoration and nursery roles
  • Purchasing from Madre de Dios producers and enterprises
  • Training designed with research institutions
  • Consultation before any programme is proposed
  • Dignified paid employment
  • Local enterprise & procurement
  • Education & youth training
  • Locally governed benefit-sharing

What we would measure

Indicators, not claims.

Proposed indicators — baseline pending, nothing measured yet. Any baseline would be set by an independent survey agreed locally before work began.

Place indicators

  • Plant survival in restoration plots

    Baseline pending

  • Soil recovery in treated areas

    Not yet measured

  • Water-quality readings against a future baseline

    Not yet measured

Community indicators

  • Paid local roles supported

    Baseline pending

  • Procurement value with regional enterprises

The place, and concept imagery

The first frame is a photograph of the real landscape. The rest is concept imagery; not documentation of this location or of a built Eden Habitat.

Research candidate means the place is real and the need is documented — not that you can book, and not that anyone has agreed to host us.
