Livingstone & Mosi-oa-Tunya

The Zambia-side river corridor near Livingstone, inside the transboundary Victoria Falls landscape. A real place with documented pressures and no Eden presence.

Real location and documented needs. No Eden site or partnership confirmed.

Documented need

What the published record says.

UNESCO identifies infrastructure and tourism pressure and invasive species at the Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls property. The 2025–2030 joint integrated management plan names Lantana and water hyacinth, sewage, runoff and boat pollution, and litter across the property.

This is a transboundary property-scale assessment, not a measured finding at any particular parcel of land.

Our proposal

River corridor care with locally owned tourism enterprise

What we would propose here, if local partners wanted it. Nothing below has been agreed.

Proposed environmental focus

Support professionally led invasive-plant management, riverbank litter monitoring and water-quality records along the corridor.

Proposed community focus

Locally owned tourism, waste and food enterprises supply the work and the week, with terms they set.

Potential contribution — subject to local agreement

What could be useful here.

For the place

  • Invasive-plant removal alongside qualified teams
  • Riverbank litter monitoring on approved safe ground
  • Water-quality sampling where locally coordinated
  • Native plant nursery support

With the community

  • Contracting Livingstone-owned guiding, transport and waste services
  • Purchasing food and craft at producer prices
  • Training pathways discussed with existing operators
  • Written, locally governed benefit-sharing before anything starts
  • Local enterprise & procurement
  • Dignified paid employment
  • Education & youth training
  • Locally governed benefit-sharing

What we would measure

  3. Day 3

    First contribution block

Two guided hours alongside a local team, on work they have set.

  4. Day 4

    Learn

Morning workshop with an ecologist, afternoon with a local maker.

  5. Day 5

    Grow

Breathwork, a 1:1 coaching conversation, then rest.

  6. Day 6

    Second and third contribution blocks

Skills-matched work in the morning, lighter work after the heat.

  7. Day 7

    Give and gather

A final block if you want it, then the long table and the closing ritual.
