Western River & De Mole catchments
Bushland catchments in northwestern Kangaroo Island, including a wildlife refuge recovering from the 2019–2020 fires. Real places, not available land.
Real location and documented needs. No Eden site or partnership confirmed.
What the published record says.
Australian Wildlife Conservancy documents the 2019–2020 bushfires here, continuing feral-cat pressure, invasive blue-gum wildlings and future fire risk, alongside successful wildlife recovery in Western River Refuge.
Fire evidence dates from 2019–2020; the conservation update is from May 2025. Recovery successes are the organisation's, not Eden's.

Post-fire habitat recovery with island enterprise
What we would propose here, if local partners wanted it. Nothing below has been agreed.
Proposed environmental focus
Support locally led habitat recovery: camera-record review, native nursery supply and approved weed work outside sensitive areas.
Proposed community focus
Island landholders and enterprises define participation, with paid local work and purchasing.
What could be useful here.
For the place
- Camera-trap record review and data entry
- Native nursery propagation
- Approved weed work outside sensitive habitat
- Plant survival and habitat records
With the community

- Paid land-management roles kept with island workers
- Skills training designed with local providers
- Participation defined by landholders

- Local enterprise & procurement
- Education & youth training
- Locally governed benefit-sharing

How it would feel
The first frame is a photograph of the real landscape. The rest is concept imagery; not documentation of this location or of a built Eden Habitat.
Research candidate means the place is real and the need is documented — not that you can book, and not that anyone has agreed to host us.
