Xingu headwaters around Querência

A restoration landscape in the Amazon–Cerrado transition around Querência — farmed and settled country, not untouched deep rainforest.

Real location and documented needs. No Eden site or partnership confirmed.

Documented need

What the published record says.

Y Ikatu Xingu's archival account places agroforestry work at the Brasil Novo and Pingo d'Água settlements in Querência. Rede de Sementes do Xingu documents native-cover recovery, springs and degraded areas, seed-collection livelihoods, and pressures from fire, exotic grasses, cattle, irregular rain and herbicide drift.

One account is an undated archival record; the seed network's restoration account includes activities through 2025.

Our proposal

Community seed networks and native restoration

What we would propose here, if local partners wanted it. Nothing below has been agreed.

Proposed environmental focus

Support locally requested native seed supply, community-led restoration and monitoring in the headwaters.

Proposed community focus

Paid seed collection and community-controlled benefit-sharing, never free guest labour replacing collectors.

Potential contribution — subject to local agreement

What could be useful here.

For the place

  • Seed handling and nursery support where requested
  • Plant survival and native cover records
  • Spring and degraded-area observation
  • Fire-risk and exotic-grass records

With the community

  • Buying seed and produce from collector associations at their prices
  • Paid restoration and monitoring roles held locally
  • Training designed with existing networks
  • Community-controlled benefit-sharing in writing
  • Locally governed benefit-sharing
  • Dignified paid employment
  • Local enterprise & procurement
  • Education & youth training

What we would measure

Indicators, not claims.

Proposed indicators — baseline pending, nothing measured yet. Any baseline would be set by an independent survey agreed locally before work began.
